Since 2004, Armin Van Buuren has surveyed the best in heavenly melodies and driving kicks with his A State of Trance compilations. Containing 39 tracks, this mix glows with the neon heat of Ibiza sunsets, starting with breathtaking vocal groovers by Denis Kenzo and the ecstatic pulse of Rodg’s “High on Life” before segueing into harder, EDM-influenced cuts like Super8 & Tab’s saw-toothed “Mega” and Andrew Rayel’s biblically epic “Epiphany.” Tiësto and Ferry Corsten may prefer poppier realms, but Armin pays homage to trance’s roots, favoring hypnotic instrumentals and ethereal states.

Half of this album is not trance music. It is a blended facade of mixed genres to create that “big room progressive house” drop that producers are obsessed with at the moment. Trance is not supposed to sound like Dimitri Vegas and like mike or Swedish house mafia. It’s supposed to sound like the golden days, the energy, melody, powerful bass…
