Wintry Altars of Madness
This album is very different than the doomy, German-thrash-sounding Immortal of today. Back when Demonaz played guitar for them, they tried to become more and more extreme with each album, and with this, they hit a wall. They pretty much set the high-water mark for extremity here. It’s 80s Morbid Angel on fast-forward, from what I can tell. Demonaz apparently tremelo-picked himself into tendonitis with this album. Overall, it’s a very interesting listen, essentially being ye olde deathrash being ripped to shreds by rabid Norwegian hellhounds.
Album of the Ages
This album is second only to At the Heart of Winter….
