Where 1993’s Sheet One established the atmospheric parameters of Richie Hawtin’s Plastikman project, Musik puts an even more otherworldly spin on stripped-down drum programming and eerie acid lines. Every track is a marvel of focus: “Konception” immerses us in liquid 303 patterns; “Goo,” a cornerstone of minimal techno, rides tuned toms and Arctic reverb; and “Kriket” turns nervous triplets and electronic chirps into a psychedelic fantasia. The mournful “Lasttrak” dares DJs to ask what lies on other side of peak time, paving the way for Hawtin’s next album, Consumed.
